The New Mastersounds 102%
Here they are again, the funkiest band on Earth with their 4th album. And once again, It works, it is as good as on the previous one. The groove is so intense, they've reached such a level, that now they figure among the best funky bands of all time. As I told Simon, you can release 10 like this one (once a year) and people will become like me, absolutely addicted, cos when they catch the groove and keep on cookin' without a pause, it is like having an orgasm or a soul stew (depending on the day), so wild ! On this 4th, a new musician joined them, Rob Lavers on sax and flute. The all team is in great form, and we're only looking forward to seeing them live at the next Soul Cookers Fest. "102%" is a strong number ala Meters with plenty of screamin' Hammond and fat drums. "Carrot Juice" is very fast and furious, one of my fav. "Colorado Sun" is more in a Soul Jazz Prestige style. I love this one cos here you can realize how Eddie is skilled, an absolute genius. "Hey Fela" is more in a Blaxploitation style with a lot of wah wah and flute, another winner. In conclusion, another super album, nothing to bin, it will defenitely figure among the classics of the genre. The NMS are : Eddie Roberts on guitar, Pete Shand on bass, Bob Birch on B3, Simon Allen on drums and special guest Rob Lavers on sax and flute 102% |
